Abstract:
Structural concrete-reinforced prestressed U-shaped beams (U-beams) with the capabilities of larger span, higher stability over the course of construction, lower construction and maintenance cost than common T, I, or Super-T shaped concrete-reinforced beams. This paper analyzes and compares the structures of U-beams with those of other types such as I, T, Super-T in terms of economic and technical indicators. It also studies the capacity of U-beams to bear the pressure in different conditions and the construction technology. Therefrom, a new perspective of selection of superstructures in the design of highway bridges in our country may arise.
